Favvy is a good app. Most people who go looking for an alternative are not unhappy with it — they have run into the daily swipe allowance halfway through a big library, and they want to know whether they should subscribe or install something else.

What you are actually replacing
Favvy does four things well, and an alternative has to cover the ones you care about:
- A swipe deck — one photo at a time, right to keep, left to bin. This is the part people get attached to, and it is why a selection grid feels like a downgrade even when it is faster.
- Sorted piles — screenshots, videos, favourites, recents, on this day, so you are never staring at the whole library.
- On-device processing — no account, no upload.
- A free tier — capped, in Favvy's case, by swipes per day.
Anything below covers the first three. They differ on the fourth.
1. SwipeDrop — the closest match
The other difference worth knowing: swiping left does not delete anything. It queues the photo, and the queue goes to a review screen showing every photo you condemned, with any of them one tap from being pulled back out. Only then does anything get deleted, and iOS still asks you to confirm.
It is on iPhone and Android, and Pro adds video compression and batch Live Photo to still conversion — the two things that free space without deleting anything.
2. Clever Cleaner — if you want to spend nothing
The trade is the interface. You get a selection grid, not a card deck — you tap the ones to bin and confirm the batch. It is faster per photo if you are decisive, and more tiring over a long session, because there is none of the rhythm that makes swiping work. iPhone only.
3. Swipewipe — the same shape, ads instead of a cap
That is a real advantage if you have one free evening and a large library. The catch is the pricing, which is hard to pin down — the listing carries around eight in-app purchases at once and reviewers report figures well above what it shows. 4. CleanMy Phone — if you would rather not decide
The trade is control: one-tap cleanup means the app decides which of eleven near-identical shots is the keeper. Usually it is right. Occasionally it is not, and you will not have looked.
5. The Photos app — the free thing you already have
Before installing anything, spend five minutes here:
Merge the exact duplicates
Albums → Utilities → Duplicates. Since iOS 16 the Photos app finds exact and near-exact copies and merges them, keeping the best version. Free and completely safe.
Sort the videos by size
Albums → Media Types → Videos. A handful of 4K clips routinely account for more space than several thousand photos. Deleting four of them can end the problem outright.
Empty Recently Deleted
Albums → Recently Deleted → Delete All. Nothing you delete anywhere frees a byte until this is done — deleted photos sit here for 30 days by default.
If that gets you back under the line, you are done. If it does not — and on a library full of near-identical shots it usually does not, because the Duplicates album deliberately ignores those — then pick from the list above.
